Gordon W. Meeter, 91, died Saturday, July 9. Memorial services were held Friday at 3 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church. There was a private family inurnment Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery. His body was cremated, there will be no visitation.
Gordon was born February 4, 1903, in Hawarden, to Louis and Harriet Williams Meeter. He married Iva lone Brown August 2, 1928, in Hawarden. She died May 31, 1983. He taught and coached for two years at Storm Lake. Then taught and coached at West Waterloo High School before becoming principal at Sloan Wallace and West Junior High Schools retiring in 1971. He served on the Board of Directors of the Visiting Nurses Assn., Past President of the Waterloo Education Association, one of. the founders and a charter member of the Black Hawk Officials Association. He refereed football, track and basketball for many years.
He is survived by a son, Louis Earl Meeter of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Florence Lewis, Effie Templeton, and Aurilla Tate; and three brothers, Lawrence, Herbert, and Earl. Memorials may be directed to the Funds for Excellence P.A.S.S. and directed to Earl Meeter, 4223 Normandy Dr., Cedar Falls, IA 50613.
