Alvin LaVerne Peck was born October 2, 1925, at Hawarden, the son of John and Vi Peck. The family soon moved to the Burke, SD, area where Al grew up and attended school. After finishing Burke High School, Al entered the Navy and served on a PT Boat Squadron in the Pacific during World War II. When he was discharged from military duty in 1946, he returned to Gregory County and was
married to Leona Gruener on January 22,1947.

They have made their home in Gregory County for their entire lives, raising their family of three boys and a daughter. Al was always employed in ranching work and in 1965, he began a long association with Ray Stukel Angus Ranch, a job he continued until his retirement. During his retirement years, Al was busy in his wood shop, making furniture and other articles for family and friends. Al enjoyed working with cattle and horses and the outdoor life. He looked forward to and liked to plan elk hunting trips each year with the Stukels and other friends and he also made a moose hunting trip into Canada with his cousin, Andy Thompson, of Yankton. Al and Ray Stukel had many great fishing times on the Missouri River. He had been in failing health for several months and died at the Gregory
Hospital on June 26, 1994, at the age of 68 years.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 29, at Kotrba Funeral Home in Gregory with the Rev.
William J. O'Connell officiating He is survived by his wife, Leona, and threee sons: Alvin Peck, Jr., of St. Charles, SD; Melvin Peck of Lucas, SD; and Calvin Peck of Gregory; and by his daughter, Linda Cool, of Platte, SD; and by nine grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and one greatgrandchild. He is also survived by a brother, Norman Peck, and a sister, Nellvina Freeman, both of Hawarden. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Matt Peck
