Carol Margaret Rice died June 3, 1994, after an eight month bout with cancer. Carol was born January 22, 1929, near McNally to Durette O'Meara Ney and Tony Ney. She attended St. Mary's Grade School, and graduated from Hawarden High School. She later worked in the Defense Department in Washington, DC, and married John Rice September 6, 1952, in St. Mary's Church, Hawarden, and they moved to Los Angeles.

She is survived by her husband, John; one son, John Jr.; three daughters, Terri, Kathleen, and Mary Kay; five grandchildren; one brother, Jim and his wife, Helen, of Des Moines; and eight uncles and aunts. She was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond in 1956. John O'Meara of DeKalb, IL Catherine LaVelle of Sioux City, and Pauline Petterson of Wichita, KS attended the funeral in Los Angeles. Commander Patrick Waite cousin of Carol's mother, assisted at the funeral mass. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery on June 7,1994.
