Hawarden Independent June 9, 1994

Donald W. Younie, 67, of Yankton, died Wednesday, May 18, 1994, at his residence. Services were held Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton with the Rev. Craig J. Bock officiating. Burial was in the Union Cemetery in Pomeroy, IA, with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion veterans of Pomeroy. Visitation was Thursday at the Ray-Lane Funeral Chapel in Yankton and will resume one hour prior to service time at the church.

Mr. Younie was born June 1, 1926, in Hawarden, the son of Clifford and Thelma (Comstock) Younie. He grew up and attended public schools in Hawarden prior to moving with his family to Manilla, IA. He graduated from Manilla High School. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy, serving in the South Pacific during World War II and also served as a medic with the Marines.

He married Ruth Musfeldt June 1, 1947, in Manning. He worked for McKesson and Robbins and then Brown Drug Co. as a sales representative for a combined period of more than 30 years. The couple lived in various locations in Iowa and Nebraska and had lived in Yankton since 1971. He retired in 1983 because of a health disability.
Mr. Younie was a a member of Ernest Bowyer Post 791, Veteran of Foreign Wars in Yankton and Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Paul W. of Little Falls, MN, and David C. of Omaha; a daughter, Mrs. Dean (Martha) Holtorf of Pomeroy; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother.
