Ellen K. "Nellie" Stiven, 76, of Sioux City, died Monday, February 28, 1994, at her residence after a long illness. Services were Friday, March 4, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church with the Rev. W. Verdery Kerr officiating. There will be an Honor Guard of St. Vincent Nurses Alumni Association. Entombment will be in Logan Park Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation was Thursday with the family present at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A rosary service by Cathedral High School friends was held at the funeral

Mrs. Stiven was born December 6, 1917, in Hawarden, the daughter of John and Jessie Kennedy. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1936 and St. Vincent School of Nursing he married Joseph R. Pechacek in August 1941. He died in May, 1968. She married Robert B. Stiven March 1, 1969, in La Grange, IL. He died October 29, 1978, in Sioux City. She worked at St. Vincent Hospital for several hears and was a nurse for Dr. Chauncey E. Heffernan for 40 years. Mrs. Stiven was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and the church Thrift Shop board.

Survivors include a daughter, Jody and her husband, Tom Graham of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew, Jennifer and Sarah; and a great-granddaughter, Flory Ann. She was preceded in death by a brother. A memorial has been established in her name with St. Thomas Episcopal Church Endowment Fund.
