Hawarden Independent February 24, 1994

Emma Eilts, 87, of Ireton, formerly of Tama County, died Friday, February 18, 1994, at the Hawarden Hospital. Services were held Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Ireton, with the Rev. Perry Schefelker officiating. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m Tuesday at the Crystal Township Cemetery near Gladbrook, Tama County. Visitation was Sunday, with the family present at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Ireton.

Mrs. Eilts was born July 31, 1906, in rural Sioux County near Hawarden daughter of Jurgen and Anna (Dugge) Wegner. She was baptized May 12, 1907, and confirmed March 20, 1921, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hawarden. She attended country school and Hawarden High School. She married William Groth February 5, 1930, at Marshalltown. They farmed their entire married life in the Gladbrook area, Mr. Goth died October 17, 1981, at Traer. She married Lawrence Eilts of Ireton July 31, 1986, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They lived in Ireton. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. While at Gladbrook, she was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, and active in the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband Lawrence; two sisters, Hilda Henningson of Grundy Center; and Irene Wegner of Hudson; a stepson and his wife Vernon and Marlene Eilts of Ireton; a step-daughter-in-law, Ardis Eilts of Ireton; eight step-grandchildren, 14 step great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, William, Louis, Albert and Walter Wegner; a sister Alma Miller; and a stepson, Bill Eilts.
