Richard Frerichs, 86, of Hawarden and formerly of Akron, died Thursday January 13, at the Hawarden Community Hospital after a long illness. Services were held Saturday, January 15, at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Akron. Visitation was at the funeral home Friday, January 14.

Mr. Frerichs was born October 15, 1908, in Akron, son of Mr. and Mrs Henry F. Frerichs. He married Marie Meinen January 30, 1932, at Emery, SD. They lived in rural Emery until 1938, when they moved to Akron. He worked for Jespersen Oil Company for many years, and owned the Sinclair Service Station in Akron for 35 years. He married Dorothy Jensen July 4 1967, in Elko, NV. He retired and moved to Hawarden in 1974. He was a member of the Akron Volunteer Fire Dept., and was Fire Chief for several years.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; two sons and their wives, Bob and Sharon of Akron and Dick and Becky of Sioux Falls; three daughters, Mrs Lowell (Eleanor) Nail of Aberdeen, SD; and Mrs. Ron (Mary Lou) Adamson and Mrs. Marvin (Lori) Neunaber, both of Sioux Falls; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Marilyn Erickson of Sioux City and a stepsister, Jessie Hendricks of Chatsworth.
