Hawarden Independent January 20, 1994

Dwight "Ike" Wakeman, 65, of Sioux Falls and formerly of Hawarden, died Wednesday, January 12, 1994, at his residence. Memorial services were held Monday, January 17, at St. John American Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, with private burial in Mr. Pleasant Cemetery, Sioux Falls. Visitation was held at the Miller Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, Sunday.

Mr. Wakeman was born April 7, 1928, in Parshall, ND, and moved with his family to Iowa as a six- year-old. He graduated from Hawarden High School in 1946, and served with the U.S. Army in the llth Army Airborne. He married Ethel F. Arno February 14, 1956, in Sioux Falls. He worked in the plumbing and heating wholesale business for many years, and for the past nine years was a single copy driver for the Sioux Falls Argus Leader. He was a member of St. John American Lutheran Church and the church men's group, the South Dakota Woodcarvers Association and the American Legion. He was a fisherman and hunter.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Vicki Wakeman of Egan, SD; and Verna Spriggs and Sara Wakeman, both of Sioux Falls; a grandchild; two sisters, Faith Newman of Salem, AR; and Darlene Wakeman of Glendale, AZ; and a brother, George Wakeman of Ireton.
