Hawarden Independent September 16, 1993

Gladys Giffin, 86, of Hawarden, died Sunday, September 12, at her residence in Hawarden. The body was cremated. Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, September 18, at the Associated Church in Hawarden with Rev. Karla Kirkeby and Rev. Willard Galloway officiating. The burial of the cremains will be in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Visitation will begin at noon Friday, September 17, with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.

Mrs. Giffin was born January 15, 1907, in Lakefield, MN, the daughter of Benton and Elizabeth (Rotramel) Rue. She married Floyd Giffin December 26, 1926, in Lakefield. The couple lived in several communities near Pipestone, MN, until moving to Hawarden in 1955. They owned and operated the Central Cafe until 1961. He died June 14, 1973. Mrs. Giffin was a member of the Associated Church, American Legion Auxiliary and Eagles Club Auxiliary.

Survivors include five sons, Duane and his wife, Fern of Austin, MN; Daryl and his wife, Lois of New Berlin, WI; Robert of Williams, MN; Roger and his wife, Nettie of Vero Beach, FL; and Kenneth and his wife, Kay of Akron; four daughters, Ruth and her husband, Glen Jaqua of Norfolk, NE; Holly and her husband, Gary Schoenrock of Atlantic, IA; Karen and her husband, Keith Newman of Sioux City; and Avis Jager of Hawarden; 26 grandchildren; and 56 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by three brothers; one grandson; and two great-grandsons.
