Michelle “Shelley” Aldrich-McCandless, 47, of Elgin, Arizona, formerly of Hawarden, died Friday, September 6, at the Tucson, Arizona Medical Center following a short illness.

Memorial services are at 2 P.M. Saturday, September 14, at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden with Father Dale George officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden.

Shelley Aldrich-McCandless was born September 4, 1949 at Hawarden, the daughter of E.J. “Joe” and Mary (Raher) Aldrich. She attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from the West Sioux High School in 1967. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and the University of Arizona with degrees in English and psychology. She taught school in Iowa, Indonesia, Japan, Panama and most recently at the Little Red School House in Nogales, Arizona.

Survivors include her husband, John McCandless, and son, Nicholas both of Arizona; her mother, Mary M. Aldrich of Sioux Center; brother, Tom Aldrich and his wife Charmaine of Sioux Center; and grandmother, Lenore Raher of Hawarden.

She was preceded in health by her father.
