Catherine Margaret was born on February 8, 1928, at LeMars, the daughter of Carl and Marie (Andresen) Ahrendsen. She was raised near LeMars, where she attended rural schools and graduated from LeMars Community High School. She attended Iowa State Normal School in Cedar Falls and taught two years in a rural school near Merrill. On February 25, 1947, she married Lee Frank Noteboom in LeMars. They lived in Orange City for two years, before moving to a farm south of Archer. While raising her family, she returned to school, and graduated from Northwestern College in Orange City in 1969. She then taught middle school, first in Archer, and later at the Sheldon Community School. After her retirement, Catherine continued working with children through the Foster Grandparent Program. In 1986, Lee and Catherine moved into Sheldon. Lee passed away on July 1, 2005, in Sheldon. She moved to Fieldcrest Assisted Living in 2014.

Catherine was baptized, confirmed, and married in the Lutheran faith, but became an active member of the Archer Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years, belonged to the Reformed Church Women’s group, and led Bible Study until last year. She also was a 4-H leader.

She enjoyed doing handwork, quilting, gardening, reading, and writing. She loved sitting on the front porch visiting with neighbors and friends, especially her "adopted" family, Chuck and Marcia Johnson and their children. She was also involved in the many activities of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Linda and Rich Wissink, of Rock Valley; two sons and their wives, Dan and Darla Noteboom, of Archer, and Terry and Candi Noteboom, of Pella; seven grandchildren, Joel (Danielle) DeRuyter, Jason (Amanda) Noteboom, Jill (Chad) Heyden, Patricia (Jared) Brinkmeyer, Brent (Laura) Noteboom, Tim Noteboom, and Michael Noteboom; thirteen great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jacob (Cleo) Ahrendsen and Al (Gerry) Ahrendsen, all of LeMars; and a sister-in-law, Bernice Noteboom, of Orange City.
