Mr. John Vander Wilt, age 85, of Hospers, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2015, at the Prairie View Home in Sanborn.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, December 26, at 10:30am, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hospers. The Rev. Marvin Leese will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a family prayer service on Saturday, at 9:15am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Friday, with the family present from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
John William was born on December 1, 1930, at Orange City, the son of Arnold J. and Mae (Kastein) Vander Wilt. He was raised on a farm at Hospers, where he attended a country school. He graduated from the Newkirk High School.
On May 11, 1950, he married Nelva Dean Swets at Orange City. They farmed at Hospers. On November 20, 2010, they moved into Hospers. On December 2 of this year, he became a resident of the Prairie View Home.
Mr. Vander Wilt was a lifetime member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Hospers.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, skiing, and snowmobiling.
Survivors include his wife of more than 65 years; three children, Brenda Kay, and her husband, Dennis Kaptein, of Sunnyside, Washington; and Arthur J. Vander Wilt and Jacqueline, and her husband, Chuck Mulder, all of Hospers; ten grandchildren and their spouses, Jason and Brandi Kaptein, Melissa and Greg Vander Top, Matthew and Mandy Kaptein, Rashelle and Larry Theis, Sabrina and Randy Smit, Tabitha and Joel Van Solen, Amanda and Scott Van Andel, Jonathan Vander Wilt, Charity and Will McKnight, and Joshua and Julie Mulder; a grandson-in-law, Ben Ribbens; 25 great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Arlin and Beverly Van Der Wilt, of Reno, Texas; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Vander Wilt, of Hospers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Karla Vander Wilt; a granddaughter, Sarah Ribbens; and a brother, Myron Vander Wilt.
Memorials will be directed to the building addition of the First Christian Reformed Church in Hospers.
