Mrs. Winifred Kalsbeek, age 97, of Orange City, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.
There will be a funeral service on Saturday, December 19, at 10:00am, at the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. John Klompien and The Rev. Aldon Kuiper will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Friday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Winifred Jane was born on April 15, 1918, in Sioux City, the daughter of Y.G. and Ella K. (Sebade) Mulder.
On March 25, 1944, she married John William Kalsbeek at the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City. They made their home mostly in Kansas City, Kansas, and Burlington, Iowa. She was a homemaker and a salesperson with Younkers Department Stores. They then returned to Orange City for retirement. John passed away on January 24, 2004, in Orange City.
Later, Mrs. Kalsbeek became a resident of the Long Term Care Facility, transferring to the new Prairie Ridge Care Center, both in Orange City.
She was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church. She enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her daughter and her husband, Barbara and David Newman, of Independence, Missouri; a son and his wife, Paul and Colleen Kalsbeek, of St. Louis, Missouri; five grandchildren, David Newman, Jr., and his wife, Mikel; Lisa Merryman, Douglas Kalsbeek, Claire Kalsbeek, and Mark Kalsbeek; seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Doris Vogel; Mary Lou, and her husband, Gerard Reinders; Helen Mulder; and Linda, and her husband, Brad Pietens; and two sisters-in-law, Florence Kalsbeek and Helen Kalsbeek.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters and John’s three brothers and sisters.
Memorials will be directed to the Orange City Christian School.
