Mildred E. Carlson, 91, of Hawarden died Friday, August 25 in a Sioux City hospital. Services were Tuesday, August 29, in Porter-Dow Funeral Home, in Hawarden, with Jim Spicer officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery, at Hawarden.

Mrs. Carlson, the former Mildred Nelson, was born May 3, 1898, on a farm in Union County, SD, five miles west of Hawarden. She moved with her parents to Hawarden at the age of five and attended Hawarden schools. She married John O. Carlson, December 6, 1918, at Minneapolis. Mrs. Carlson was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Survivors include a son, Curtis, of Hawarden; a daughter, Maxine Lucht, of Omaha; four grandchildren, including Virgil Carlson, of Canton, SD, and Mrs. Charles (Verlys) Sandahl, of O'Fallon, MO; 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one son, Burnell.
