Last Rites Held Saturday for Mrs. Hattie Van Laar

Funeral services for Mrs. Hattie Van Laar, 83, were held at the Christian Reformed church on Saturday, September 16, with Dr. H. Kuiper officiating. Burial was made in the Valley View cemetery. Mrs. Van Laar died of hardening of the arteries last Wednesday morning. She had been in poor health for the past few months.
Mrs. Van Laar was born in Ambtvo Uenhove,(SP?) Netherlands, on February 2, 1867. She came to the United States in September, 1895, and took up residence at Cawker?? City, Kansas. She married Albert Meyer in 1897. He died in 1914. She moved to the Rock Valley vicinity in 1919. In 1921 she married John W. Van Laar, who died in 1949.Mrs. Van Laar is survived by four sisters: Mrs.John De Wit Sr., Mrs. John Van Leeuwen, Mrs. Henry Veltkamp, and Mrs. Harry Voetburg, all of Rock Valley, and one brother, Harry, seven stepchildren, five brothers preceded her in death. Pallbearers were John Kooistra Sr., Herman Van Otterloo, Neal De Ruyter, J. De Kara??, P. Swier and Gerrit Hoekstra.
