Margaret Durette Ney, 86, of Hawarden, died .Friday, August 26, 1988, at a Sioux City hospital after a short illness. Services were 1:30 p.m. Monday, August 29, 1988 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hawarden with the Rev. Edmond Adams officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden. Casket bearers were Greg Lynott, Gene Keying, Vincent Muth, Robert Lynott, Dick Swift and J. B. Schiefen.

Mrs. Ney, the former Durette O'Meara, was born January 9,1902, at Ireton. She graduated from St. Mary's School in Hawarden and Normal School at Le Mars. She taught in rural schools near Ireton for several years. She married Anthony Nicholas Ney December 28, 1927, at Hawarden. Together they farmed near Ireton and moved into Hawarden in the early 1930s. Mr. Ney died January 9,1955. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Guild, VFW Auxiliary, Mother's Club of
American Legion and Royal Neighbors.

Survivors include a son, James Nicholas Ney of DCS Moines; a daughter, Mrs. John (Carol) Rice of Los Angeles, CA; three brothers, John O'Meara of DeKalb, IL and Paul and Robert O'Meara, both of Sioux Falls, SD; six sisters, Eva Conway of Fullerton, CA, Irene Graff and Helen Dunkeson, both of Granville, Catherine LaVelle of Sioux City, Jospehine Bandy of Dallas, TX and Paulline Petterson of Wichita, KS; eight grandchildren, a step-grandson, three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Raymond Anthony Ney, who died December 23, 1956; four brothers, Clint, Francis, Leonard and Michael; and two sisters, Bess Leonberger and Cecelia Goergen.
