Lois M. Ykema, 59, of Wentworth, S.D. died Saturday, October 1,1988, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. Lois Mary Schiefen Ykema was the youngest daughter of Julius B, and Dorothy Schiefen. She was born at Hawarden June 26, 1929 and graduated from Hawarden High School in 1946. She had worked at REA in Alcester and Booth Drug in Hawarden. On Feb. 5, 1949, she married Lawrence Ykema. They farmed in the Hawarden and Hudson area until moving to Wentworth, SD in 1964. She was employed by Coleman State Bank from 1964 to 1976. She was an active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence; two daughters, Carol Ann Dierks, of Colorado Springs, CO, and Barbara Lea Milton, of Cave Creek, A; three grandchildren; a sister, Catherine Martin, of Lafayette, CA; two brothers, J.B. Schiefen and J. Lawrence Schiefen, both of Hawarden. A son, Craig, preceded her in death.

Services were held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Wentworth, SD, Tuesday, October 4, at 10:30 a.m.. Burial was at Rosehill Cemetery in Wentworlh under the direction of Weiland Funeral Chapel, of Madison, SD.
