Hawarden Independent of Feb 11, 1888

Claus Hamersma, 79, of Alcester died Wednesday, February 3,1988, in a nursing home in Alcester.
Services were 2 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 1988 in Peace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Richard Luttman officiating. Burial was in Peace Lutheran Cemetery.

Mr. Hamersma was born Feb. 29, 1908, in Holland. He came to the United States and rural Hawarden, with his parents in January 1920. He worked as a farm hand in the Hawarden and Akron area until moving, to Alcester in the late 1920s. He married Viola Numsen Sept. 14, 1932, in Alcester. The couple farmed in Union County until retiring in 1973. He entered Morningside Manor Nursing Home in October of 1985. She died Oct. 31,1986. Mr. Hamersma. was a longtime member of Peace Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a brother, Frank of Beresford, and two sisters, Mrs. Clara Reitsma of Fairmont, MN, and Mrs. Russell (Dorothy) Blumstein of Brighton, IL.
