Hawarden Independent September 17, 1987

Otis Wandling, 92, of Ireton, died Monday, September 7,1987, in a Sioux Center hospital. Services were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 10, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton. Rev. Mark Carnahan officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton under direction of Dow Funeral Home in Ireton. Pallbearers were Merlin Rostermundt, Allen Eisma, Gary Fedders, Alfred De Jong, Walter Schipper and George Wakeman.

Mr. Wandling was born September 20, 1894, in Troy, IL, and grew up there. He served in the Army during World War I and came to Ireton to farm after his discharge. He married Esther Holtdorf December 1, 1920, in Ireton. the couple farmed in the Ireton area and later moved into Ireton where he worked for various businesses and owned and, operated a grocery store. They retired in 1965. She died February 10,1978.

Mr. Wandling was an active member of Bertram Post 276, American Legion of Ireton and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he held various offices. Survivors include a brother, Roy, and a sister, Florence Kelly, both of Litchfield, IL.
