Obituary for Arlene Van De Hoef
Mrs. Arlene Van De Hoef, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, in Louisville, Kentucky.
There will be a funeral service on Saturday, October 17, at 11:00am, at the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Anchorage, Kentucky. A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 19, at 2:00pm, at the Newkirk Cemetery in rural Hospers.
Arlene was born on March 8, 1933, in Sheldon, the daughter of Joe and Marie (Tensen) Van Aalsburg. On June 1, 1950, she married Cornelius Van De Hoef in Montevideo, Minnesota. Mr. and Mrs. Van De Hoef farmed at Newkirk, and co-owned the Newkirk Store. After “Cornie’s” ordination as a minister in the Reformed Church in America, the couple served churches in New Era, Michigan; Denver, Colorado; Lexington, Kentucky; Sarasota, Florida; Holiday, Florida; Bellflower, California; Modesto, California; and Artesia, California. In 1996, they retired to Louisville. Rev. Van De Hoef passed away on August 15, 2000, in Louisville.
She was a homemaker, a founding member of the Golden Hour, and a former member of the Newkirk Reformed Church. She was currently a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon, was a member of the Mission Circle and the Sew & Sew Club, and participated in the Adult Women’s Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Van De Hoef is survived by a daughter, Judith Bloor and David Brandt, of Louisville; a son and his wife, Jacob and Joan Van De Hoef, of Galloway, Ohio; two grandchildren, Christopher Van De Hoef and his wife Maureen, and Meagan and her husband Phillip Bocook; two great grandchildren soon to be, two brothers, Dick and Dennis Van Aalsburg; and a niece, Greeta Jean Van De Hoef.
She was preceded in death by her husband, The Reverend Cornelius “Cornie” Van De Hoef.
