Mrs. Geraldine Bouma, age 89, of Norfolk, Nebraska, formerly of Boyden, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2015, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

There will be a funeral service on Friday, October 23, at 10:00am, at the United Presbyterian Church in Boyden. Pastor Brian Schafer will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Sheridan Township Cemetery near Boyden. Visitation will be after 6:00pm on Thursday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Geraldine was born on October 20, 1925, in rural Boyden, the daughter of Herman “Harm” and Susan (Brink) Oldenkamp.

On March 18, 1949, she married Roy H. Bouma, the son of Andrew and Artie (Vander Wilt) Bouma, in Worthington, Minnesota. They made their home in Boyden, where she was a homemaker and a cook at the Boyden-Hull Elementary School for 28 years. Roy passed away on February 6, 1996, in Sheldon, after 46 years of marriage.

In 2000, Geraldine moved to Omaha, Nebraska, and in 2013, she moved to Norfolk, where she lived in a senior citizen independent high rise facility.

She was a member of the Boyden Presbyterian Church and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed baking, cooking, going out to eat, and spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also known to be a bit of a prankster.

Survivors include her two daughters, Audrey Huisman, of Norfolk; and Mary (Terry) Van Surksum, of Omaha; four grandchildren, Scott, Jason, Ann, and Jeffrey; nine great-grandchildren, Cara, Tyler, Kaitlyn, Blake, Zachary, Devin, Trenton, Jackson, and Emma; two sisters-in-law, Cornelia Oldenkamp and June Bouma; and many nephews, nieces, and friends.

In addition to her husband, parents, and parents-in-law, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, David I. Huisman; a grandson, Timothy Huisman; seven sisters, Jennie (John) Van Es, Susie (Pete) Westra, Gertrude Oldenkamp, Tena (Jerry) De Raad, Mina (John) Lode, Christina Lode, and Edith (Ben) Visser; four brothers, William (Bertha) Oldenkamp, Sam (Jeanette) Oldenkamp, Henry (Jenny) Oldenkamp, and John Oldenkamp; four infant siblings; a brother-in-law, Harold Bouma; and a sister-in-law, Katherine Bouma.
