Funeral services for Gerhard E. Johnson, 82, of Chatsworth, father of Mrs. Josephine Meins of Hawarden, who died Saturday in a Sioux City Hospital, were held at 2 o’clock Tuesday at St. Mathews Lutheran Church at Chatsworth. Reverend Harris Hostager officiated with burial at Hillside Cemetery at Merrill, Iowa.

A prayer service was held at 8 o’clock Monday evening at the Lewison Funeral Home in Akron.

Mr. Johnson was born March 20, 1892, in Honkirk, Germany. He came to the United States in 1898 and farmed in Plymouth County until 1960 when he moved to Chatsworth.

He married Mary Rosena Knecht on March 20, 1912. She died in 1922. On October 28, 1926 he married Katherine Albright in Sioux City. She died in 1962.

Survivors include two sons, Emil of Dalaban, Wisconsin, and Harvey of Janesville, Wisconsin; five daughters, Mrs. Ella Beeler of Akron, Mrs. Meins of Hawarden, Mrs. Irene Nielsen of Boloit, Wisconsin, Mrs. Martha Powell of Akron, and Mrs. Alma Morrison of Beloit, Illinois; a brother, Carl of Merrill; 27 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
