Merle C. Listen, Sr., 87, of South Sioux City, died Saturday, July 4, 1987, at a South Sioux City nursing home following a long illness. Services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 1987, at Riverside United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert W. Lemmermann officiating. Burial was in Sloan City Cemetery under direction of Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.
Mr. Listen was born January 24, 1900, at Hawarden. He married Mildred E. Henderson on June 29,1926, at Sioux City. He served with the U.S. Army during World War I. He was a warehouseman for Tollerton-Warfield in Sioux City before retiring in 1962. He lived in Sioux City unti1982, when he moved to South Sioux City. He was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church. He was amember of Landmark Lodge No. 103 A.F. & A.M. and the White Shrine of Jersulum No. 13. He was a member of the Teamster Union.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Merle C. Jr. of Citrus Heights, CA,and Donald P. of Auburn, CA; three daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Mary) Robertson and Mrs. Leonard (Clara) Voss, both of Cheney, KS, and Mrs. LeRoy (Joy) Barnes of South Sioux City, a brother, Chester of CoeurD'alene, ID; a sister, Mrs. Tress Rochester of Sioux City; 22 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
