Martin Van Noort, 95, of Hawarden,died Tuesday, June 9,1987, at hisresidence following a long illness. Services were at 2 p.m. Thursday,June II, at the United Methodist Churchin Hawarden with Rev. Paul Hansen officiating. Burial was in Grace HillCemetery under direction of DowFuneral Home.Pallbearers were Harvey Peters,Richard Doescher, John Orton,Monroe Lundberg, Leo Anderson and Elwood Bolster.

Mr. Van Noort was born August 2, 1891, in the Netherlands. He came to the U.S. as a small child. He lived his life in or near Sioux County. He was a veteran of World War I. Mr. Van Noort married Eva Schemmer in August, 1945, at Alvord. The couple moved to Hawarden in 1949. He worked for Schoeneman Brothers Lumber for many years before his retirement in 1957. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, was past Commander of the American Legion and was a member of the Last Man's Club of Hawarden.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Peter Schemmer of Hawarden; a sister, Jennie Vande Stowe of Hawarden; three grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.
