Died: 1966Fred A. Gefke, 73, for eight years Hawarden’s city clerk, died Wednesday afternoon of last week at a Sioux Falls Hospital after a long illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Gefke, a municipal bond broker, were held Saturday at the Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Among those from Hawarden attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Hansen and Alma Thompson.
Born June 25, 1893, at Hawarden, Mr. Gefke also was postmaster here five years. He became a municipal bond broker while living in Hawarden and was engaged in that business 38 years.
Mr. Gefke had been a resident of Sioux Falls since 1940. At one time he was secretary and treasurer of the Iowa-Minnesota Natural Gas Company.
He married Madeleine Field in Hawarden January 22, 1914.
Surviving are the widow, two daughters, two sons and 11 grandchildren. The children are Mrs. George Anderson, Mrs. Donald Grebin and Norman, all of Sioux Falls, and Gary of St. Louis.
