Elza Hand, 73, a resident of Hawarden since 1924, died at the Hawarden hospital Sunday after a three-week illness.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the American Lutheran church, Reverend Norval R. Wigtil officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill cemetery under direction of the Barnard-Dow Funeral home. The American Legion and V.F.W. had charge of military rites at the graveside.

Miss Jolene Lingscheit was the organist. The congregation sang two hymns. Casket bearers were E.V. Slife, Jr., Keneth Hultquist, J.E. Tilgner, George Hirschman, LaVere Edmunds and Willis Frank.

Mr. Hand was born March 28, 1893, at Bethany, Illinois. He married Elsie Degen February 14, 1924, at Ireton.

He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Last Man's Club.

Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Marvin Kots of Le Mars and Mrs. Kenneth Popken of Rock Rapids, and six grandchildren.
