Funeral services for Herbert J. Osterday, 66, who died at a Watertown, South Dakota Hospital recently, were held with the Ellsworth Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Dr. C.I. Wilkens officiated at the services and Masonic graveside rites were held at the Castlewood Cemetery.

Mr. Osterday was born in Hawarden October 28, 1894. At the age of 2 he was adopted by L.F. Osterday and grew to manhood here.

He married Harriet Marie Comstock here in 1915. He was in the locker and produce business in Hawarden, Dell Rapids, Alcester, Dempster and Castlewood, South Dakota, where he retired in 1960 and was living at Lake Poinsett.

Mr. Osterday was active in both junior and amateur baseball, the Castlewood Commercial Club, volunteer fire department, Sioux Valley Lodge No. 125 and First Presbyterian Church of Castlewood and the Dell Rapids Odd Fellows Lodge.

Survivors include the widow, Harriet; three sons, Herbert of Rapid City, Richard of Redfield and Jerry of Norfolk, Nebraska; a daughter, Dorothy, Mrs. Eugene Page of Box Elder, South Dakota; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Smith of Dunlap, and Mrs. Ifla Newman of Tacoma, Washington, a brother, John Jones of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and seven grandchildren.
