GRIM REAPER’S CALL--DEATH CLAIMS TWO IN SAME HOME--Mr. and Mrs. Lee B. Anstine, victims of Influenza. Die only few hours apart
No deaths more sad and distressing have occurred in the community for many years than the passing away of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Anstine this week from influenza, leaving behind them four small children from four to twelve years of age to grieve and to mourn.
Mr. and Mrs. Anstine and their four children were all taken sick at their farm home six miles north of Hawarden last week. Mrs. Anstine’s brother, Lawrence Henry, who was staying with them and their hired man were also sick with the disease at the same time, making a very deplorable condition, with only the little help that the neighbors could give to care for them. The attending physician decided to remove the family to Hudson where they could receive more careful nursing and attention, but the ravages of the disease were such that the hand of death could not be stayed. Mrs. Anstine passed away Tuesday night and Mr. Anstine died the following afternoon. The children are improving and hopes are now entertained for the recovery of all of them.
The body of Mrs. Anstine was brought to Hawarden and interment was made in Grace Hill Cemetery Wednesday afternoon. This morning the body of Mr. Anstine was also brought here and laid to rest beside the grave of his wife.
Lulu Grace Henry, daughter of William A. Henry of Hawarden was born near Manchester, Maryland, October 2, 1888. Lee B. Anstine was born near Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania in June 1880. They were united in marriage at York, Pennsylvania May 18, 1906. This union was blessed with five children, four of whom, one daughter and three sons are still living. They moved here from Pennsyvania about two years ago and have made their home on a farm north of Hawarden.
Besides he children , Mrs. Anstine is survived by her father, brothers, and two sisters. Three brothers are fighting for their country in France, one is in the navy and two reside near Hawarden. One sister Mrs. C.A. Marshall, resides near Hawarden, and the other Mrs. Ira Shoop, resides at Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.
Mr. Anstine is survived by one brother in Michigan and one sister in Pennsylvania. The entire community extends sincere condolence for the bereaved relatives.
