Born: January 13, 1947 Le Mars, Iowa
Died: September 15, 2001 Minneapolis, Minnesota

Roger Lloyd Pinkg, 54, Maple Grove, MN. formerly of Ireton, died Sat. Sept 15, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Minneapolis, following a two-year battle with cancer.

Services were Wed. Sept. 19, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig, with Rev. A. Pete Petersen officiating. Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton, under the direction of Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Sat. Sept 22, in Maple Grove Lutheran Church at Maple Grove, MN.

Roger Ping, son of Robert and Beulah (Willis) Ping was born Jan. 13, 1947 in Le Mars, IA. He married Carol Asseln on June 20, 1970 in Craig. He attended Sioux Falls College in Sioux Falls, S.D. and the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. He served in the U.S. Navy for 26 years, including two Vietnam tours and the Middle East conflict aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. America. He retired in 1991 following his final duty in the NROTC Unit at the University of Minnesota. After his naval retirement he was employed at Recovery Engineering in Brooklyn Park, MN.

He enjoyed cooking and refinishing antiques.

Survivors include his wife, Carol; a son, Ryan of Maple Grove, MN; his father, Robert of Ireton; a brother, Randal and Linda of Sheldon; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Elmer and Shirley Asseln of Craig; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Keith and Rebecca Asseln of Craig IA.
He was preceded in death by his mother; Beulah and a brother, Michael.
