Death: March 14, 1935

Max Wilson, well known young Hawarden business man, died at 11:30 last Thursday morning at St. Joseph's hospital in Sioux City where he had been taken three days earlier. His death resulted from pneumonia with heart and kidney complications. Although it was known that his condition was critical his family and friends held to the hope that his rugged constitution might prevail in conquering the ravages of disease and his death came as a distinct shock. He was first taken ill on Sunday, March 3rd, but was able to be about on the following Friday after which he suffered a relapse and on Monday, March 11th, was taken to the hospital where he died.

Funeral services were held at 9 o'clock Saturday morning at St. Mary's Church in this city, High Mass being celebrated by Reverend Father J.M. Neppel. Burial was in the cemetery here.

Max Joseph Wilson was born in New York City September 28, 1896, and passed away in Sioux City March 14, 1935, at the age of 38 years, 5 months and 21 days. He was left an orphan at the age of 5 when his mother died, his father having passed away two years previously. He was then taken into the home of an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Wilson, and continued to make his home in New York where he grew to young manhood and received his education. He came to Chicago with his uncle and aunt and later came to Sioux City where he was employed as an automobile mechanic. About 1920 he came to Hawarden and was employed for a time as a mechanic for the firm of Lang & Schiefen but a short time later opened an automobile repair shop of his own since which time he has been continuously engaged in the garage and automobile business. His business was first conducted in what is now a part of the Cambier Motor Co.'s garage and subsequently he occupied quarters in the Dalton block. A few years ago he moved his business into the Tilgner garage building.

Mr. Wilson was united in marriage with Miss Ruth Muth on May 19, 1924. Three children were born to them, Eileen, 10, Dea, 8, and Ralph, 7. His death is a severe blow to the wife and children upon whom he bestowed his most generous love and affection. He is also survived by his uncle and aunt, now in Los Angeles, California.

Max Wilson was a young business man of energy, determination and self reliance. He was a master at his craft and was four-square in all his business associations. His genial nature and ever cheery greeting won for him many loyal friends. He was ever ready to assist a friend in need and there is widespread sorrow at his untimely passing.
