The following from the Sioux City Journal will be of interest to Hawarden readers, as Mr. Wilson formerly worked in the Wilkinson & Henkel Hardware store here:

“ J.F. (Jack) Wilson, 54-year old county recorder here since 1932, died suddenly Friday morning in his home, 3700 Memorial Drive, after suffering a heart attack.

Relatives at the residence said Mr. Wilson had suffered a heart attack about three months ago and that the one this morning was the second. They said he had been feeling well this morning up to the time of the attack.

Mr. Wilson came to Hawarden in 1911to work in the store of Wilkinson & Henkels. He remained here about a year and a half before going to Sioux City to go into the plumbing business for himself.

During his stay here he was well known and one of the most popular young men of the town.

Mr. Wilson was elected to the county recorder’s office in 1932 and had held the position since. He was born September 18, 1887, at Alexandria, South Dakota. He came to Sioux City in 1913 and was employed by Lytle Construction Company as foreman for several years before opening a plumbing shop on W. Seventh Street.

In 1918 Mr. Wilson joined the army and saw service overseas. After his return home he became city salesman for the A.Y. McDonald Company. Mr. Wilson remained with the McDonald firm until 1933 when he ran for Woodbury County Recorder on the Democratic ticket and was elected. He was re-elected every election since. He was president of the Iowa Society of County Recorders.

Mr. Wilson was a member of the Cathedral of the Epiphany, the American Legion, The Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Knights of Columbus and Elks and Eagles Lodges.

Surviving are his widow, Marie; and four brothers, Charles of Winnebago, South Dakota, James of Portland, Oregon, Dr. Leo and Thomas both of Sioux City; and five sisters, Mrs. D.B. Seger of Sioux City, Mrs. L.D. Ryan of Emery, South Dakota, Miss Nell Wilson of Sioux City and Misses Julia and Kathryn, both of San Francisco.

Funeral services were held Monday morning.
