Bill Whittington, 67, of Hawarden died Sunday, February 2, 1997 al his residence in Hawarden.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Associated Church in Hawarden with Reverend Randy Knuth officiating. Burial will be in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Visitation began at noon Wednesday, with the family present from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home.

Mr. Whittington was born August 21, 1929 at Hawarden, the son of Harley and Grace (Morey) Whittington. He graduated from the Hawarden High School in 1948 and served in Japan with the US Air Force. Bill married Edna Vande Hoef in 1951 in Hawarden
.
He farmed in the Hawarden area until 1972. He drove truck long distance and then worked and later managed the Hawarden Ready Mix until retiring in 1991.

Bill was a member of the Eagles, American Legion, VFW and Associated Church all of Hawarden.

Survivors include 4 sons, Dennis of Hawarden, Dean and wife Andrea of Black Hawk, South Dakota, David and wife Jennifer of Boise, Idaho and Drew of Minneapolis, Minnesota; special friend, Nancy Schiefen of Hawarden; brother, Richard Whittington of Cupertino, California; sister, Edith Pryor of Roseville, California;and 8 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Amy Jo and Lynn; and a sister, Neva.
