FUNERAL SERVICES TO BE HELD AT 2 O’CLOCK THIS AFTERNOON IN ASSOCIATED CHURCH

Mrs. Edward Whittington, 81, a pioneer resident of this vicinity, died Tuesday at the Hawarden Hospital from a heart ailment.

Mrs. Whittington suffered a severe heart attack last November after which she was in the hospital for 10 days. Saturday evening she was taken to the hospital a second time.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock this afternoon at the Associated Church with Reverend T.A. Mansen officiating. The Barnard Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Ida Mae Peters, daughter of John and Susan Peters, was born September 12, 1867, at Raymond, Iowa. She came to this vicinity with her parents 65 years ago, locating in Union County, South Dakota. She married Ed Whittington June 29, 1893, and after her marriage she lived on a farm near Hudson. She came to Hawarden in 1899 when they moved to their own farm, which joins Hawarden on the north. In 1924 Mr. and Mrs. Whittington retired from farm life and came to Hawarden to live.

She was a long time member of the Presbyterian Church and the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Royal Neighbors and the Mothers Club of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband; two children, Mrs. Marie Hodgson and Harley Whittington of Hawarden; four brothers. Elvin Peters of Kimball, South Dakota, John of Sturgis, South Dakota, Clyde of Minnesota, and Berton of California, and five grandchildren, Mrs. Neva Remmington and Marie Whittington of Sioux City, Glenn Hodgson and Richard Whittington of Hawarden and S/Sgt. William Whittington who is in Japan. One grandson, Flight Officer Edward Hodgson, was killed in Dingin, India, November 27, 1943, and his body has recently been returned to the United States.
