He was married to Miss Ida Mae Peters June 29, 1893, and continued to live near Hudson until 1899, moving onto his own farm in the northeast part of Hawarden. In 1924 he retired and came into the city to live. His wife died in 1949.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Guy Hodgson, and a son, Harley Whittington, both of Hawarden; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild and a brother Will Whittington of Blenheim, Canada.

Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the Associated Church with Reverend John C. Thorns officiating. Dale Lodge No. 456 A.F. & A.M. had charge of the graveside rites. Mrs. Ralph Gregg, Jr. with Mrs. Hal Shoemaker as accompanist, sang “Going Home” and “Beyond the Sunset.”
