Theodore Clifford Youngkin, 88, of Santa Barbara, California, died December 6, 2008. A celebration of Ted’s life was held December 12 at Bethania Lutheran Church.

Ted Youngkin was born November 2, 1920 in Minot, North Dakota. He grew up in Hawarden. Ted married Martha Eriksen on November 23, 1945.

Ted served in the US Marine Corp during World War II, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant. He served in the South Pacific during the war, as a member in the 3rd Marine Air Transport Wing.

He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, earning a BS Degree in Industrial Design and an MS Degree in Design. He served on the faculty of the Art Center for 36 years. Ted taught and inspired a generation of young designers. An industrial designer he designed scientific and technical products for leading corporations throughout the world. He received numerous design awards for his work, including the International Triennial in Milan, the American Design in Steel Award, and the Industrial Research Award.

Survivors include his wife, Martha; daughters, Heidi (Paul) and Heather (Pat); grandchildren, Philip, Sophie, and Leslie; brothers, Lloyd and Ellwood; and sister, Marjorie.
