Died: 1924

Clarence Younie, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Younie, residing two miles east of Hawarden, died at 7 o’clock last Friday evening at Indianapolis, Indiana, following an illness of only a week’s duration. The exact nature of his illness is not yet definitely known here. Upon receipt of word of his illness on Monday of last week his mother departed for Indianapolis to be at his bedside but before she reached there on Tuesday he had lapsed into unconsciousness from which he did not recover. His brother, William Younie, departed Sunday for Indianapolis to be present at the funeral which was held there. Interment was made at Indianapolis.

Clarence Younie was born on the home farm, two miles east of Hawarden, in August, 1897, so was a little past 29 years of age. He grew to young manhood on his father’s farm. He entered the army during the war and was stationed during the entire period of his service at Fort Benjamin Harrison, near Indianapolis. It was while serving in the army that he met Miss Iona Good of Indianapolis with whom he was united in marriage about eight years ago. Some time after his discharge from the service Mr. and Mrs. Younie came to Hawarden and made their home here for several years. They moved from here to Sioux City and about two years ago returned to Indianapolis where they have since made their home.

Besides his wife he is survived by one son about 1 year old. An older son died on January 6, 1926, at Indianapolis at the age of 6 years. His also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Younie of Hawarden, two brothers, William and Art Younie of Hawarden, and two sisters, Mrs. Max Jackson of San Diego, California and Miss Hazel Younie of Hawarden.

The news of his death was received by many old Hawarden friends with expressions of deepest sorrow, for he was held in the very highest esteem by all who knew him. Sincere sympathy goes out to the members of his grief stricken family.
