Lloyd "Shorty" Liston, 81, of Ireton, IA died of cancer on Sunday, August 10, 1997, at his home in
Ireton. Services were held on Tuesday morning, August 12, 1997, at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton, the Reverend Loren Vogler officiating. A Prayer Service was held on Monday evening. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton, under the direction of the Porter-Dow Funeral Home at Ireton.

Lloyd was born August 10, 1916, near McNally, IA, the son of Orlen and Effie (Jones) Liston. He attended country school, and while the family lived in South Dakota, Lloyd graduated from the 8lh grade at the county seat in Elk Point. As a young man, he worked in the South, cutting timber with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), and traveled through the upper Midwest with threshing crews.

Lloyd married Lillian Westergard on Mov 26, 1940 at the Lutheran parsonage at Ireton and the couple farmed southwest of Ireton. Lillian died January 30, 1995. Lloyd was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Senior Singles. He loved visiting with his friends, dancing, and watching West Sioux sports.

Surviving relatives include a special friend, Eileen Johnson of Vermillion, SD; three sons, Allen and his wife Dana Liston of Cedar Rapids, IA, Lenny Liston of rural Ireton, and Dale and his wife Jan Liston of Fremont, NE; six grandchildren Carie (Mrs. Craig) Von Sprecken of Marian, IA, Cami Liston of Cedar Rapids, IA, Carmen Liston of Ramstein, Germany, Tara Liston of Ireton, and Wendy and Chris Liston of Fremont, NE; one great-grandchild, Tyler; six brothers, Lee of Hawarden, IA, Daryl of Sherburn, MN, Wesley of Oregon, Norman of St. Paul, MN, James of Kennedale, TX, and Dick of Hawarden; five sisters, Myra Heuer of Rock Valley, IA, Neva Busch of Hawarden, Betty Gronemeyer of Arnolds Park, IA, and Darlene Rummel and Cindy McKee, both of Hawarden. Lloyd was preceded in death by his stepmother, Tina; his wife, Lillian; four brothers, Duane, Roger, Howard, and Lawrence Liston; and a sister, Vivian Finch
