Peter Romine one of the pioneer residents of Sioux Country, died at the National Soldier's Home at Leavenworth, KS. last Friday. The deceased was a veteran of the Civil War and served with an Ohio regiment for four years during the great struggle between the North and the South and was wounded while with Sherman on his march to the sea. After the war he came to Sioux County and located at Calliope in 1868. He served as a member of the board of supervisors from 1869-1871. For several years he drove a stage on the old stage route between Sioux City and Sioux Falls. A number of years ago he was stricken with paralysis and since that time has been cared for at the National Home at Hot Springs, S.D. and at Leavenworth, KS. He was buried Monday in the National Cemetery near Leavenworth, KS. with all the honors of a brave and true soldier.
