Hawarden Independent May 21, 1987

Vincent "Butch" J. Schiefen, 70, Sioux City, died Thursday, May 14, 1987, at his home after a brief illness. Services were at 10 a.m. Monday, May 18, at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Rev. Richard Sitzman officiating. Burial was in Memorial Cemetery under direction of Berkemier Funeral Home.

Mr. Schiefen was born October 20, 1916, at McNally. He moved to Hawarden in 1921. He married Bernadette Boor on February 12,1944, at Hawarden. The couple made their home in Sioux City until 1947 when they moved to Maryville, MO. They returned to Sioux City in 1951. He worked for Standard Oil Company for seven years after which he was employed as a maintenance foreman for Wilson Trailer until retiring in 1979. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and Paternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1865.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Raymond of Grand Island, NE; two daughters, Mrs. Darwin (Paula) Conky of Garland, TX, and Mrs. Lonnie (Jana) Sargent of Sioux City; a brother, Joseph of Hawarden; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Sonichsen and Mrs. Earl (Helen Brimmer, both of Yankton, SD; and seven grandchildren. Memorials may be directed to the Hospice program.
