R. I. Rhodes, 77, a resident of Hawarden for 41 years, and city councilman for six years, died at the Hawarden hospital last Wednesday, following a long illness.

Funeral services were held on Sat. afternoon at the Methodist Church with Rev. C. E. Custer officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Rhodes was born March 10, 1882 at Dallas Center, IA. He moved to Wisconsin as a boy and grew up there. As a young man he moved to Aloan and on Nov. 16, 1904, he was united in marriage with Miss Myrtle Napier of Sloan. In 1918 the family came to Hawarden and for many years he operated a dray and express line. After discontinuing this business he was employed by the Chicago, Milwaukee railway company retiring in 1952.
He was a member of the Methodist Church in Hawarden.
Besides the widow he is survived by two sons, Leo of Des Moines and Merton of Dubuque, IA; three daughters, Mrs. Mae Vitt ?(not legible) of Chicago and Mrs. Erma Molhoff and Mrs. Iva Wagner of Hawarden; one brother, Ross B. Rhodes of Braham, MN; 15 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
