Hawarden Independent, September 28, 1967

Mrs. John McCarthy, 77, died Tuesday morning at the Hawarden Community hospital following a short illness. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., today (Thursday) at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hawarden, with burial in St. Mary's cemetery. Rev. Edward Burian of Dell Rapids will officiate.

Rosary was said at 8:00 p.m., last night at the Dow Funeral home.

Mrs. McCarthy, the former Mary Lynott, was born in Hawarden on June 1, 1890. She was married September 14, 1915. The couple celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary this month. They lived in Eagle Grove a short time, but have lived in the Hawarden area the past 50 years.

The McCarthys engaged in farming prior to moving into town in 1952. She was a member of St. Mary's Guild.

Besides the widower, she is survived by three sons, Edward of Groves, Texas, and James and William both of Hawarden. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. James Gehan of Sioux Falls, and Miss Loretto Lynott of Hawarden; a brother, Emmet Lynott of Sioux City and 13 grandchildren.
