Bert Pocklington, 83, died at his home here Monday night June 30, after suffering from a stroke last October, and since then had been bed fast.
Funeral service were held last Friday afternoon at the Barnard Funeral Home with Rev. Chester Custer of the First Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden.

Mr. Pocklington was born August 12, 1870 at Ruthford, MN. He went to Ireton at an early age and moved to Brown's Lake near Sioux City, better known to them as "Weed-Land", before coming to Hawarden in 1878.

He married Effie Perry of Brownsdale, MN. Jan.28 1915. They had one adopted son, Merle, who preceded him in death in 1956.

Bert's father John Pocklington, who was a Civil War veteran, moved the family from MN. to Iowa in a covered wagon.
Surviving include the widow, Effie, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Merle Pocklington; Three grandchildren, Kay Dean who is serving in the Air Force, Larry Dee and Lynette, Merlene, at home; two brothers, Walter of Onamia, MN and Oliver of Los Angeles and 20 nieces and nephews.
Bert's parents, two sisters, Mrs. Emma Pecaut and Mrs. Alice Rose, and a pair of twins, Lila and Lily, who died in infancy, preceded him in death.
Relatives who came from a distance to attend the funeral were Walt Pocklington, Joe and Ruby Pocklington of Onamia, MN; Mrs. Ed Fulin of Milaca, MN; and Mr. and Mrs. Max Sibbert and son, Roger, of Brainerd, MN; Mrs. Neulah (Beulah?)Richards of Osseo, MN; Mr and Mrs. John Leveiller, Mrs. Paul Craike, Mrs. Martin Goetsch, Mrs. Fred Griswold, Mrs. Bessie Wallen and Miss Gladys Pecaut of Sioux City.
