PASSED AWAY LAST THURSDAY AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS--WAS 48 YEARS OLD AND LIVED IN THIS VICINITY SINCE CHILDHOOD--LEAVES WIFE AND SIX CHILDREN

Ernest C. Yates, a resident of this community since early childhood, died quite suddenly at his home in Denver, Colorado, last Thursday. He had been in ill health for some time and about two months ago moved his family to Denver in the hope that the change of climate might prove beneficial. The immediate illness resulting in his death was but a brief duration.

The remains were shipped back to Hawarden, arriving here Tuesday afternoon, and funeral services were held at 2:30 that afternoon at the Reverend James S. Smith, pastor of the Associated Churches. Interment was made in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Ernest Charles Yates was born in Carroll-County, Iowa, November 20, 1880 and died in Denver, Colorado, January 17, 1920, at the age of 48 years, 1 month and 27 days. He came to Sioux County with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Yates, in the spring of 1882 when they located on a farm in Eagle township and with the exception of a year or two spent in Wisconsin, continued to make his home in this community and in Hawarden until he moved his family to Denver the past fall.

He was united in marriage with Miss Flora Heumphreus in 1903. Six children were born to this union, all of whom, with the widow, survive. The children are Arthur Yates, Mrs. George Schiefen, Mrs. Edward Mansfield, and Cora, Mildred, and Gladys Yates, all of Hawarden. He also leaves three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Elizabeth Schutt of Denver, Colorado, Mrs. Carl Schutt of Fairmont, North Dakota, Mrs. Lawrence Hunsaker of Burke, South Dakota, Chas. Yates of Sanborn, Iowa, and Jas. Yates of Ireton.

The sincere sympathy of a host of friends goes out to the members of the bereaved family.
