MRS. THOMAS YATES DIED EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING--CAME TO THIS COUNTRY FROM ENGLAND WHEN A YOUNG LADY--SURVIVED BY HUSBAND AND EIGHT CHILDREN.

Mts. Thomas Yates sank peacefully at her home in the southeast part of this city at an early hour Wednesday morning. She had been in quite feeble health all winter and spring but had been bedfast very little of the time. On Tuesday, in fact, she accompanied her husband in a walk about the place and had entered spiritedly into making plans for their garden and taking care of her chickens. During the early hours of Tuesday night she was restless and awake several times, but seemed to grow easier after a time and about 1:30 told Mr. Yates that she was feeling better and would be able to sleep. When Mr. Yates arose in the morning he thought she was sleeping soundly and would not disturb her. Later, on going to her room he discovered that her life had ebbed away as she had slept.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at the Congregational Church by Reverend William F. Vance and interment will be made in Grace Hill Cemetery. The Order of Eastern Stars will have charge of the services at the cemetery.

Katherine Wiggins was born at Winchomb, Gloucestershire, England, on January 16, 1851, and died at her home in Hawarden on April 26, 1922, at the age of 71 years, 3 months and 10 days. She came to America in 1871 and on April 27th of that year was united in marriage with Thomas Yates at Cleveland, Ohio. After three moths spent in Cleveland they came to Tama County, Iowa, where they engaged in farming for five years. In 1876 they moved to Carroll County, Iowa, onto an 80 acre farm which Mr. Yates had purchased. They remained there until 1881 when they moved to Sioux county, settling on a farm in Center township which Mr. Yates had purchased two or three years earlier. They left their farm in Center township in 1900, moving to Hawarden, and have since made their home in this city. Eight children were born to them, all of whom are living. The children are: William Yates of Sioux City, Charles F. Yates of Ireton, Mrs. C.H. Schutt of Fairmont, North Dakota, James Yates of Ireton, Mrs. Lizzie Schutt of Denver, Colorado, Ernest Yates of Clam Falls, Wisconsin, Mrs. L.A. Hunsaker of Burke, South Dakota, and Thomas E. Yates of Ireton. All of the children are expected to be here to attend the funeral.

Mrs. Yates was much beloved by the people of this city. Her devout, Christian character instinctively drew many friends to her. She was an active member of the Eastern Star order.
