Death Follows Long Illness

Mrs. Bessie Le Van Died Saturday at Oakdale
We 36 years old and spent most of her life in this community
Funeral here Tuesday Mrs. Bessie LeVan passed away early Saturday morning at the state sanatorium at Oakdale, Iowa, following a lingering illness. She had been in gradually failing health for about four years and had been a patient at the sanatorium at Oakdale for more than eighteen months. The remains were brought to Hawarden Monday afternoon and funeral services were held at the Methodist church at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon with Rev. Robert F. Chapler in charge Mrs. Mildred Dick Anderson sang two appropriate solos at the service. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery. Pall bearers were Thos. Cammock, Richard Younie, Verne J. Mailette, Glaus Lage, Lawrence Meeter and Cy. Youngkin.

Bessie Fern McAninch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. R. McAninch, was born in Lincoln county, S. D., May 31, 1904, so was 36 years and 14 days old at the time of her death. She grew to young womanhood in Hawarden where she was baptized in the Methodist church. She was united in marriage with John F. Fleming in 1920. They moved to Austin, Minn., and lived there until the death of Mr. Fleming in 1931. Two children were born to this union, Valeria and Betty Lou. After the death of her husband, she and her two children moved to Hawarden to make their home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. R. McAninch. In 1936 she was united in marriage with Clyde LeVan of Hawarden.

She leaves to mourn her departure Her husband; three children, Valeria Betty Lou and Patsy Ann; her parents; and one siter, Mrs. M. C. Lillie of Des Moines. Out of town relatives and friends who were here to attend the funeral included Miss Valeria Fleming of Oakdale; Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Fleming,Mrs. Arnold Hoffman, Mrs. Morris Kennedy and Mrs. Martin Clark, all of Austin, Minn, Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Lillie of Des Moines were in California and were unable to be here for the funeral.
