John C. Rolfes, 49 of Sioux City, a former resident of Hawarden, passed away early last Thursday morning, August 20, at his home, following an illness of four weeks.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 Sat. afternoon in the Wesley Methodist Church in Sioux City with Rev. J. E. Feller officiating. Burial was in Graceland Park Cemetery.

John C. Rolfes was born in Le Mars Feb. 12, 1893 and at the age of eight he moved to Sioux City. Later he lived at Rembrandt and while there he was employed in a drug store operated by J. C. Stickel. In 1915 after Mr. Stickel opened a drug store in Hawarden, Mr. Rolfes came here and was employed by Stickel Drug company for four years. After leaving Hawarden he went to Sioux City.

He had been a fireman in Sioux City for 20 years, being stationed at station 5 at the stockyards. He was a member of the Sioux City Firemen's Association.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. John Loe of Sioux City and Carole at home; one son, Jack Rolfes of Sioux City, and four sisters, Mrs. Forrest Yockey of Jefferson, Mrs. Merritt Smith of San Margarita, CA. Mrs. Clarence Houtz of Sioux City, and Mrs. Arthur Anderson of Red Wing, MN.
