Helen Lucille Ping was born Sept. 8, 1925 at Ireton, IA, the daughter of Charles E. and Lenora (Vlotho) Reid. She graduated from the Ireton High School in 1943 and began working in a department store in Sioux City, IA. Helen married Jack Ping Sept. 2, 1945 at St. Paul's Lutheran parsonage in Ireton. The couple made their home in Ireton.

Helen was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed. She was a member of the Ireton American Legion Auxiliary. Helen enjoyed golfing, bowling, traveling, camping, boating, crocheting, country western music and was an avid reader.

Helen died Saturday March 4, 2000 at the St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, IA at the age of 74 years.

Surviving relatives include her husband, Jack: son, Gary Pink and wife Denice of Ireton; daughter, Sandy Iles and husband Tom of Sierra Vista, AZ; brother, Eugene Reid and wife Lorene of Ireton; two sisters, Marilyn Torwelle and husband Melvin of Ireton, Thelma Walker and husband Lynn of Watervill, KS; sister-in-law, Jaucile Reid of Alexandria City, AL.; 6 grandchildren, Tracy Ping and wife Cassndra, Chad Ping and wife Gloria; Jeb Ping, Jessica Ping, Shannon McCormick and husband Brian, and Cody Shipp; 7 great-grandchildren, Hilary Pink, McKenzie Garcia, Mallory McCormick, Erica Shipp, Josh Johnson, Kari Johnson and Jager King.

Helen was preceded in death by a brother, Darrel Reid.
