Dr. Arthur C. Wyant, 85, a retired dentist of Mason City, Iowa, died Wednesday, August 2, in a Mason City Hospital. Dr. and Mrs. Wyant moved to Mason City from Hawarden 20 years ago, after he had practiced dentistry here 35 years.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 Friday morning at the Major Memorial Chapel in Mason City with Reverend Robert L. Stone, pastor of the First Congregational Church of that place officiating. Burial was in the Riverview Cemetery at Rock Rapids at 3 P.M. that afternoon. Reverend Paul Freeman of the First Congregational Church, Rock Rapids officiated.

Dr. Wyant was born December 23, 1876 at White Pigeon, Iowa, son of pioneer parents, Samuel and Sarah Wyant. He was graduated from Iowa State Teachers College and the State University of Iowa College of Dentistry. Following his graduation he came to Hawarden. After he moved to Mason City he managed Dr. Craven’s office until he retired in 1957.

While Dr. Wyant lived in Hawarden he was active in affairs of the city and served as mayor and on the city council. He also served on the library board. He was a member of the Associated Church and after moving to Mason City transferred his membership to the Congregational Church there. He was a member of the American Dental Society, Chamber of Commerce and Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are the widow, Helen E. (Whitehead) Wyant; two sons, Walter, who is with the administrative Department of the American University at Beirut, Lebanon and Arthur Donald Wyant of Ankeny, Iowa; a brother, Richard Wyant, Hamilton, Montana and a sister, Ethel LaRock, Oakland, California.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.

Mrs. Helen Ball, Mrs. Ida McManaman, Mrs. J.A. Armstrong, and Mr. and Mrs. Rex Truesdell of Hawarden attended the graveside service at Rock Rapids.
