Carl Kris Ranschau, 89 of Doon, died Thursday June 29, at Rock Rapids Health Care.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. July 1, at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, with Rev. George Clausen officiating. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, with full military honors. Arrangements are under the direction of Roste Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

Carl Ranschau, son of Henry and Ann (Gelderman) Ranschau, was born Jan. 23, 1917, in Rock Valley. He was raised on the family farm near Rock Valley and attended country school. He entered the U. S. Army in 1942, serving in World War II. After receiving his honorable discharge in 1946, he returned back to Rock Valley and continued to help with the family farm. He moved to a farm near Doon in 1948. He married Nora Kitchenmaster on Dec. 29, 1951. They continued to farm until retiring in 1977 and moving to Doon.

He was diagnosed with cancer in the summer of 2005 and courageously battled the disease.

He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids and the American Legion. His hobbies and interests included farming, playing cards and helping out at the Doon Lumber Yard.

Survivors include his wife, Nora Ranschau of Doon; two children, Wayne and Christine Ranschau of Doon, and Brenda and David Herd of Alton; five grandsons, a brother Frank Ranschau of Luverne, MN. and three sisters, Elsie Thielvoldt of Alvord, Rose Grossenberg of Winner S. D. and Elaine Luce of Sioux Falls, S.D.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Ted, Henry, Richard, and Marvin Ranschau; and three sisters, Martha Baatz, Anna Hass and Lillian Rielly.
