Funeral services for Mrs. May Bennett Waterbury, 83, of Hill City, South Dakota, who died Saturday, January 7, at St. John’s Hospital in Rapid City were held at the Barnard Funeral Home here Wednesday, January 11, with the Reverend C.E. Custer in charge.

Previous funeral services were held at Hill City in the Assembly of God Church on Monday.

Mrs. Waterbury was born May 1, 1877, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Bennett. She married Isaac Waterbury April 27, 1892. He died in April, 1950.

The couple had one adopted son, Carl who died in August, 1952. They had lived in Kansas and other places and at one time Mr. Waterbury was in partnership in a general merchandise store in Hudson, South Dakota, with his sister, Mrs. R.O. Schaber.

Following this they moved to Rapid City and then to Hill City in 1924 where they lived the rest of their lives.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. John Kruzen of Hawarden; two brothers, Frank Bennett of Le Mars and Orville Bennett of Lennox, South Dakota; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Carl Waterbury of Hill City, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A number of nieces and nephews live in this community. Those from out of town who attended the funeral in Hawarden included Mrs. Carl Waterbury of Hill City, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Jahde and Frank Bennett of Le Mars, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Waterbury and Mrs. Delta Waterbury of Akron, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Waterbury of Yankton, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Bennett of Lennox, Mr. and Mrs. Harley Marshall, Mrs. Roy Haddican and Dale Haddican, all of Hudson.
